In his famous letter, Newton was speaking about his discoveries in the field of optics built upon knowledge of René Descartes, the famous french philosopher and mathematician. In a similar way, Teridion has introduced a whole new approach to optimizing internet performance by building its virtual networks on the shoulders of public cloud giants.
The idea of optimizing internet performance better is not new. For example, Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) like Akamai and CloudFront offer higher performance and security for static content that is frequently accessed, such as e-commerce catalogs.
Until now, optimizing internet performance for dynamically generated content or collaborative content uploaded by end users has not been possible without extensive investment in replicated data centers or network Points of Presence (POPs).
Teridion’s founding team brought skills in building broadband gateway routers for Cisco. This skillset allowed the Teridion team to build a lightweight yet high performance routing engine that could run in any public cloud data center.

Teridion uses the cloud and connectivity between data centers to find and create new routes that did not exist until the cloud vendors started to expand around the world. In addition to Amazon, we have seen other major players like IBM, Oracle, Microsoft and Alibaba invest heavily in this realm. Teridion has created an entirely new map of internet routes by standing on the shoulders of public cloud giants – something that would have been impossible before the cloud players achieved global coverage in 2016.
